Premier League star ‘threatened with gun by football agent’ as police launch investigation

A Premier League star was allegedly at the heart of a terrifying incident earlier this year having been threatened with a gun while walking with a friend in the heart of London

Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation after a top Premier League star was allegedly threatened with a gun. A football agent has reportedly been arrested in the aftermath of the terrifying incident.

The player, who is apparently rated at around £60million, was walking down a busy London street with a friend when the incident is said to have occurred. Police were called at 11:14pm on September 6, with the Metropolitan Police having since confirmed that they have launched a full investigation.

Meanwhile, an agent was arrested and detained last month on suspicion of brandishing the firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, as per The Sun. The agent, who represents stars including an England international, is also being investigated for allegedly blackmailing and making threats against the footballer’s friend.

He has not yet been charged with any offence. Police however swooped on his Hertfordshire home two days after the incident, while he was given bail on September 9 with the condition that he did not contact the player.

Police also hit the agent with a ban that prevented him from visiting the player’s club training ground, while they were also prevented from travelling abroad. However, a bail variation was agreed by a judge at magistrates’ court.

The man requested his passport in order to leave the UK on pre-booked trips but he is reportedly required to return it to police when he returns.

A source speaking to The Sun said: “This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football.

“The player was understandably shaken up — to have threats made against you with a gun is shocking.

“He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety. He has been supported by his friends and club and they all hope it will not impact his performances.

“But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer.”
