Star Lions free agent Zac Bailey makes huge call on future amid mega rival offer

Brisbane star Zac Bailey has penned a monster eight-year extension, knocking back a mega deal from Adelaide.

Bailey, 26, has recommitted to the Lions for life on a deal that runs through 2034 in a huge coup for Chris Fagan’s side.

The top free agent was weighing up strong interest from the Crows on a more lucrative deal, with reports of a seven-year offer worth around $10 million.

The contract saga has dominated headlines this season, but Bailey has settled on his call in a big boost ahead of Saturday’s semi-final against Adelaide.

“I’m absolutely rapt to be staying at the Brisbane Lions,” Bailey said.

“I love the environment here, the players, coaches and staff who all make it a great place to be and I feel like this club continues to bring the best out of me.

“This club means so much to me — I came here as a young player and have grown up here and to know I will be here long-term is something I’m really proud of.

“I would like to thank the club, my partner Em, my family and my management for being so supportive throughout this process.

“I love what we as a club have achieved during my time here and I am super excited about what we can continue to achieve together.”

Bailey has produced another stellar season after a breakout 2025; he’s averaged 21.7 disposals and 1.4 goals per game in 2026 to claim a second-straight All-Australian blazer.

It’s been crucial for Brisbane in its top four finish and quest for a three-peat as the club looks to bounce back from a qualifying final loss to Sydney.

“Zac is a terrific player and an outstanding person, so to have him commit to the Brisbane Lions for the long term is fantastic for our football club,” Lions footy boss Danny Daly said.

“Zac loves the club, he loves living in Brisbane, and he has fully embraced the environment we have built at Brighton Homes Arena.

“There is no doubt Zac was highly sought after, so for him to choose to stay says a lot about his belief in the Club, his teammates and the environment we have built here.

“Having Zac locked away until the end of 2034 is a great result for our football program and for our members and supporters.

“We look forward to having Zac, his partner Emilie, his parents and their families remain an important part of our club for many years to come.”

While Bailey has re-signed with the Lions, fellow star free agent Lachie Neale is widely expected to move to Collingwood this off-season.

Veteran Dayne Zorko remains unsigned for 2027, while young forward Will McLachlan is reportedly drawing rival interest.

Brisbane also needs funds leftover to lock away Logan Morris and Kai Lohmann on long-term deals beyond 2027, with the star duo set to be heavily pursued by rival clubs.
