Novak Djokovic Clashes With Journalist and Defends His Era of Dominance

Novak Djokovic, currently fourth in the ATP rankings, firmly rejected the idea that his career has been defined by “chasing” other players and strongly defended his legacy in world tennis, calling a journalist’s question “disrespectful.”

The Serbian star made the comments after advancing to the Australian Open semifinals, once again proving his continued relevance at the top level of the sport.

“I find it a bit disrespectful to skip over what happened between the period when I started out chasing Roger and Rafa and now, when supposedly I’m chasing others. There were about 15 years when I dominated the Grand Slams,” Djokovic told reporters.

The multiple Grand Slam champion made it clear that he does not see himself playing a secondary role to the new generation of tennis stars.

Djokovic also addressed the long-standing narrative surrounding his career, first alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and now in comparison with the rising stars of the ATP Tour.

“So I’m always the one chasing and never the one being chased… Thank you, it’s worth saying sometimes, right?” he replied sarcastically, visibly frustrated by the question.
