BCB Concerned About ICC Backlash Amid Multiple Investigations

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is in communication with multiple governing bodies. These discussions concern the 2025 elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and their fallout.

In the most recent 2026 ICC T20 Men’s World Cup, Bangladesh was absent from the competition. Scotland entered the tournament as its replacement.

With the T20 World Cup having concluded nearly two weeks ago, the BCB is concerned about the ripple effect that continuing investigations could have on its standing within the international cricket community.

As such, the BCB is pleading with the National Sports Council to cease its investigations, as the BCB has launched its own inquiry into its absence from the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Pleads With the National Sports Council

The BCB is wary of interference allegations and concerned that the new Bangladesh government’s investigation committee could be seen as just that.

“Given the potential implications for Bangladesh cricket at the international level, the BCB considers it important to address this matter with due care and transparency,” the BCB said in a statement via FirstPost. “Before initiating any formal communication or proceedings with the ICC, the BCB believes it is appropriate to engage directly with the National Sports Council to seek clarification regarding the context, intent, and possible implications of the gazette. The BCB has requested the National Sports Council to close this matter in a manner that safeguards the stability, independence, and continued progress of Bangladesh cricket.”

“While also ensuring that the country’s standing within the international cricket community remains fully protected.”

The Tarique Rahman-led Bangladesh government assembled a five-person committee to investigate “election irregularities” regarding the 2025 BCB elections.

Bangladesh Minister Launching T20 World Cup Investigation

The Bangladesh government is in line to launch its own investigation into why its cricket team did not participate in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. Aminul Haque, Bangladesh’s state minister for youth and sports, recently spoke about this.

“I have already spoken about these issues and why we could not participate in World Cup cricket. And where exactly our shortcomings in sports diplomacy lay,” Aminul said via Cricbuzz. “These are matters we must thoroughly examine. Perhaps after Eid, I will form an inquiry committee, and based on its findings, we will take the necessary steps.”

Aminul also revealed the exact steps that the inquiry committee is taking with its investigation into the 2025 BCB elections.

“During the previous government’s tenure, there was direct interference in the cricket board elections from the government’s side,” Aminul said. “We formed an inquiry committee, and I am currently awaiting its report. They have been instructed to speak with everyone involved in the election process. In some cases, we have seen that district administrators initially nominated one councillor. (But then) later changed their decision by sending another letter.”

“These are allegations and questionable issues that have come to our attention. Once the investigation is completed and the report is submitted, I will review it. Then consult with the members of the inquiry committee, and speak directly with the ICC before taking any further steps.”
