"He should have been warned": Ex-New Zealand player Simon Doull loses cool on Ravindra Jadeja for his behaviour against New Zealand

Indian spinners took nine wickets in the team’s 44-run win over New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Varun Chakravarthy took five wickets, while the two scalps went to Kuldeep Yadav. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel added one wicket each to their bowling figures as the Kiwis were bowled out for 205 while chasing 250.

In the 33rd over of New Zealand’s chase, Jadeja trapped Tom Latham in front of the wicket. The Kiwi batter played a reserve sweep but misjudged the line, and the ball struck on his thigh.

The way Jadeja appealed didn’t go well with former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull, who lost his cool on the all-rounder for running down the track’s centre to appeal and celebrate.

“Did you look at that? You can’t do that. He should have been warned for his act,” he said. The players are warned if they step on the pitch.

Earlier, Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bowl first. India were 30/3 at one stage with Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the dressing room. A 98-run partnership between Shreyas Iyer (79) and Axar Patel (42) brought India back into the contest. Hardik Pandya scored 45 runs and took the total to 249/9 in 50 overs.

Kane Williamson (81) gave his best for New Zealand but didn’t get support from the other batters. India topped Group A and will now face Australia in the semi-final on March 4. On the other hand, New Zealand will battle with South Africa in the second knockout match on March 5.
