Shardul Thakur set an embarrassing record during Luckow Super Giants' (LSG) thrilling four-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in a high-scoring thriller. The star pacer conceded 52 runs in his four-over spell as KKR made 234 runs in a high octane run-chase.

However, Shardul played a key role in helping LSG hold their nerve with the big wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Andre Russell . Earlier, LSG posted a huge total of 238 on the board, with Mitchell Marsh (81 of 48) and Nicholas Pooran (87 of 36) playing valuable knocks.

The 13th over KKR's innings will go down in the history books as Shardul started the over with five wides in a row before conceding one run of the first legal delivery. The 33-year-old is the first player in the league's history to concede five wides in a row. Overall, he is only the second player in the rich history of the IPL, after Mohammed Siraj, to concede five wides an over. Siraj also bowled five wides in an over while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2023 season at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In his four-over spell, Shardul bowled eight wide balls, which is the most by a bowler in a single match in IPL history.
