He broke the fastest century record in youth ODIs with a 52-ball 143.Vaibhav Suryavanshi was in stunning touch in England. (PC: rajasthanroyals, Worcestershire County Cricket Club)Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi eked out his stellar form from IPL 2025 into India Under-19’s tour of England. The 14-year-old ended the five-match ODI series as the highest scorer with 355 runs when no other batter even touched 300, despite being five years younger than the age group. He averaged 71 (only behind Thomas Rew, who went not-out twice) with the bat and had a strike rate of 174.02, which is barely believable for a 50-over contest. His returns included 30 fours, which was not the highest, but also 29 sixes, one more than the combined tally of the next six highest run-scorers in the series.Recommended StoriesFour batters scored centuries in the series, but Suryavanshi recorded the highest of them all — 143. He reached three figures off just 52 balls, making it the fastest century in youth ODIs, shattering Pakistan’s Qasim Akram’s record of 62 balls from 2022.Speaking after the match, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) star spoke about how he took inspiration from Indian Test captain Shubman Gill’s double-century at Edgbaston.“I didn’t know I had made a record," Suryavanshi told the BCCI. “Team manager Ankit sir told me that I have… I was very inspired by him (Shubman Gill) because I saw the game. Even after scoring 100 and 200, he kept at it and took the game forward. So, I also had it in mind that I could have batted for longer because there was a lot of time, 20 overs were left. I could have extended my innings but there was a shot that I couldn’t connect 100% which is why I got out, otherwise I would have tried to bat as long as him."top videos View all Swipe Left For Next Video View all“Everyone said congratulations but rest I’ll see when I get to the hotel! (Laughs) There won’t be any extra celebrations, I’ll just be happier for doing something good for the team. I will speak to my family and friends and try to score 200 next time. I’ll try to play all 50 overs because the more runs I score, the more my team will benefit," he added. He couldn’t make a 200 in the final match, getting out for 33 (42) as England sealed a consolatory win to end the series 3-2. However, Suryavanshi will get a chance to go beyond that in the two Youth Tests that’ll follow the ODIs, starting from July 12.About the Author Cricketnext Staff A team of reporters, writers and editors brings you news, analyses, features, live scores, results, stats and everything that’s cricket from all over the globe.
