Marcus Rashford's four-word response to Bruno Fernandes after 'ripping up Barcelona agreement'

Bruno Fernandes has received the ultimate praise from Marcus Rashford after a landmark Manchester United achievement

Marcus Rashford has praised Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes after he levelled the Premier League assist record. The Portugal international reached the tally of 20 in his side's win over Nottingham Forest with Rashford swift to reply to his Instagram post commemorating the achievement.

His comment read: "Setting levels as always [red heart emoji]." Fernandes later responded: "@marcusrashford my brother [red heart emoji]." One assist from Fernandes on the final day against Brighton will see him break the record set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Just a few hours after Fernandes' sensational performance at Old Trafford, Rashford was an unused substitute for Barcelona's final La Liga clash of the season at the Camp Nou against Real Betis. Fernandes sent a message to Rashford after he scored a sensational free-kick in the win that secured Barca the Spanish league title.

That was his fourteenth goal of the season and the 28-year-old appears intent on remaining at Barcelona beyond his loan spell. The latest reports from Spain have come through Mundo Deportivo as they have claimed that Rashford has already agreed a three-year contract that includes a reduced wage.

However, with discussions still stalling, Rashford is reportedly willing to rip up that agreement and instead commit to a five-year deal which would help Barcelona afford his signing. That is because they would be able to spread the cost over a longer period.

A £26.2m buy-option clause was included in his loan switch with United sticking by their stance that he must be sold permanently for a fee no lower than that or stay at the club.

Michael Carrick, who is set to become the club's permanent head coach, is open to the idea of a Rashford return but that stance does not appear to be shared by Rashford despite the fact Ruben Amorim is no longer at the club.

Regardless of how his future plays out, a big summer awaits at Old Trafford with United securing Champions League football for next season.

Their first sale was confirmed on Sunday with Rasmus Hojlund joining Napoli for £38million with that clause activated by his loan club sealing Champions League qualification after beating Pisa.

With Rashford expected to join Hojlund in moving elsewhere, United could look to add more depth in attack but the priority will undoubtedly be in midfield.

Casemiro played his final home game for United on Saturday against Nottingham Forest with top target Elliot Anderson putting in a sensational display despite his side losing.

Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Ederson, Aurelien Tchouameni, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are just a few other options that have been linked to United.
