US Open gets more negative spotlight, and this time it's not just influencers ruining the experience

On the courts, the 2026 U.S. Open has been an awesome tournament. It all got kickstarted with Novak Djokovic falling in the first round. Since then, the women's side has featured standout performances from its superstars. On the men's side, there are plenty of underdog stories still going.

Despite the exciting moments on the court, the major talking point has revolved around off-court stuff. In particular, social media influencers - who were invited by the tournament's organizers - haven't exactly displayed the proper tennis etiquette. Naturally, that has launched a polarizing debate around letting influencers into the tournament at all.

But it doesn't appear to be just social media influencers playing a role in the tournament lacking proper etiquette. In fact, during a night match at the main court at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the crowd was shockingly loud while play was still ongoing. People were even getting up and walking around in the lower level.

That goes beyond the influencers. Casual fans don't seem to be grasping the concept of being quiet during tennis matches, particularly when the ball is in play. Something has clearly gone wrong when it comes to crowd control. The tournament's organizers will likely face backlash following the conclusion of the tournament.
