Which player Liverpool have now identified as their 'desired' no. 10 target this summer

Liverpool are set for a huge summer of spending, with a world-class no. 10 in mind for Arne Slot.

Having settled on a 4-2-3-1 formation that has led Liverpool to the Premier League title, it makes sense why the Dutch manager is keen to sign a top-quality attacking midfielder to compete with Dominik Szoboszlai for the position.

Rayan Cherki has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, with Morgan Rogers also emerging as a target for the Reds as the Merseyside giants look to go big when it comes to signing a new no. 10 for next season.

With so many names linked, settling on just one feels like a difficult task for the Reds, yet Liverpool appear to have done just that heading into the summer transfer window.

Florian Wirtz identified as Liverpool’s ‘desired’ attacking midfield target

According to Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool have highlighted Florian Wirtz as their ‘desired’ target for the no. 10 position, with the Bayer Leverkusen star expected to leave the Bundesliga side alongside Anfield-bound Jeremie Frimpong.

Plettenburg wrote: “Plans at Liverpool are in full swing. The current priorities are finding a centre-back, a left-back, a playmaker/No. 10, and a winger. LB: Milos Kerkez is currently the top priority. Jorrel Hato is on the shortlist. No. 10: Florian Wirtz is the desired target – and they’re not willing to give up on him.”

With Wirtz believed to be in England to meet Liverpool last week, interest in the Germany international is ramping up, who this season has once again been one of the best players in Europe despite Leverkusen falling short in reclaiming their Bundesliga title.

And with Liverpool now stating that Wirtz is their dream no. 10 target, work to sign the 22-year-old could be accelerated in the coming days, especially with Bayern Munich and Manchester City also chasing the attacking midfielder.

Liverpool should break the bank to sign Florian Wirtz this summer

Wirtz is rightfully regarded as one of the best young players in football, with the Leverkusen star a key reason behind Xabi Alonso’s unprecedented success with the Bundesliga side in the last two and a half seasons.

And if Liverpool want to reach the next level under Slot, breaking the bank to sign Wirtz is a must this summer, with the German magician simply too good a player to pass up on in the upcoming transfer window.

Whilst interest from Bayern and City will make a deal difficult for Liverpool to pull off, the Reds have the funds and the appeal to make a move possible, with Wirtz a player who could be perfectly suited to Slot’s system.
