Falconets confirm Poland, Korea friendlies before World Cup campaign

Nigeria’s U20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, have begun training in Trzebnica, Poland, and will play two international friendlies against hosts Poland and South Korea as they step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said.

The team commenced training yesterday at the Stadion Miejski, Fair Play Arena, a day after arriving in Poland, with sessions focused on tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and team cohesion.

The Falconets will face Poland on 28 August at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, kicking off at 12 noon local time, before meeting South Korea on 1 September at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium, with kick-off at 4pm local time. The NFF said the friendlies will help the players adjust to conditions in Poland, test them against varied styles of play and allow the technical crew to assess the squad’s readiness ahead of the tournament.

Captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab have been withdrawn from the squad after failing to secure visas, and have been replaced by Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi.

Head coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew have continued to demand full commitment from the players as the team fine-tunes its approach in camp.

Nigeria, runners-up at the 2010 and 2014 editions and two-time silver medallists overall, will be chasing a first FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup title. The Falconets have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia, and will open their campaign against Spain on 7 September, before facing China PR on 10 September and New Caledonia on 13 September.
