Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann beat Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the final to win the singles title at the Mumbai Open 2025 tennis tournament on Sunday.

World No. 117 Teichmann beat Sawangkaew, who is 122nd on the WTA tennis rankings, 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets at the Cricket Club of India.

This was Teichmann’s third senior singles title and the second WTA 125 crown after the one in Ljubljana last year.

Meanwhile, in the doubles final, India’s Prarthana Thombare and her Dutch partner Arianne Hartono lost 6(4)-7(7), 6-2, 10-7 to second seeds Elena Pridankina and Amina Anshba from Russia after a hard-fought contest.

Thombare and Hartono were the finalists in the last edition as well as they conceded the title decider to Dalila Jakupovic and Sabrina Santamaria.

India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, however, was the breakout star of the tournament.

The 15-year-old unranked player, who lost to Jil Teichmann in the semi-finals, made waves after scoring upset victories over multiple opponents in the Top 300 to reach the top four.

Maaya is the first tennis player born in 2009 or after to make the semis of a WTA125 event globally.

The Tamil Nadu-born teenager is all set to become the youngest Indian to appear on the WTA tennis rankings based on her performances at the Mumbai Open.

Among the other Indian tennis players in action, Ankita Raina was ousted in the second round of singles after a loss to Rebecca Marino of Canada, the second seed. Raina’s doubles campaign ended in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Rutuja Bhosale and her British partner Alicia Barnett were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles event after losing to Pridankina-Anshba.

The Mumbai Open is the biggest professional women's tennis tournament in India and it returned after a gap of six years in 2024. Mumbai Open 2025 is the fourth edition of the tournament.
