Drogheda United’s expulsion from European football has been confirmed after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) was rejected today, with a statement from the club outlining ‘heartbreak and disbelief’ at the decision.The League of Ireland side have become the first club to be prevented from participation in European competition under UEFA rules on multiclub ownership. Owners Trivela bought a majority stake in Danish outfit Silkeborg last winter and when they qualified for the Europa Conference League, the Drogs were in bother.
