Arsenal are set to miss out on the signing of Morgan Rogers after Chelsea gazumped the Premier League champions with an aggressive £117million move for the attacking midfielder. It leaves Mikel Arteta again without a key target after what was hoped to be a big summer of major deals.

The status as title-winners laid the perfect foundation for an ambitious window, but so far, that has not played out. Sporting director Andrea Berta is now tasked with finding an alternative.

So far, Gabriel Martinelli and the expected signing of Christos Tzolis will be the options for next season. With Rogers off the table, football.london takes a look at three potential alternatives now having missed out on the Aston Villa man.

Bradley Barcola

One player the club is known to be interested in is Bradley Barcola. The Paris Saint-Germain winger has been impressing at the World Cup but has drawn interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Like Rogers, however, PSG are expected to demand a massive price tag to prize the 23-year-old out of the French capital. Despite being named as a player the club are keen on, so far, that has been the extent of the link so far.

Yan Diomande

A player who looks like he’d be on his way to PSG, but this is another part of the chaotic and expensive summer that refuses to relent. RB Leipzig are also looking for a monumental fee for the Ivorian.

Diomande is much more of the traditional winger profile, like Barcola, where Rogers is more of a wide forward with plenty of midfield traits. A right-footed left winger, with speed and an eye for goal, the 19-year-old is seen as one of the best in his age bracket but has plenty of areas to improve on.

This is the very special and wildly unrealistic option… or is it? With just one year remaining on his contract, a big decision needs to be made by the player and club.

If the Brazilian is not signing a new deal, Los Blancos will surely want to cash in before he leaves on a free next summer. Arsenal need to be one of the clubs in the conversation and in the end, missing out on Rogers will be forgotten instantaneously.
