Iga Swiatek predicted to make exactly the same move as Novak Djokovic after her shock defeat to Danielle Collins in Rome

Iga Swiatek has crashed out of the Italian Open following a shocking second-round upset to Danielle Collins 6-1, 7-5

Swiatek made an attempt at a comeback in the second set after an almost flawless opening seven games from Collins, but ultimately the American took the victory.

The Pole has had a difficult clay swing thus far, losing in the quarter-final in Stuttgart, before Swiatek suffered a heavy defeat to Coco Gauff in the Madrid Open semi-final.

Having fallen out of the Italian Open so early, the world number two will have to make a decision on her preparation leading up to Roland Garros, where Swiatek emerged victorious last year.

Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli had her say on Swiatek’s ideal scheduling ahead of the second major of the year.

Marion Bartoli thinks Iga Swiatek will play another tournament before Roland Garros

Speaking after Swiatek’s defeat, Bartoli said: “It’s going to be a tricky situation. Will she ask for a wildcard in one of the events leading up to Roland Garros? That is a question mark.”

“Novak Djokovic for example, has requested a wildcard in Geneva. I think for Iga, she has a lack of match play.”

So I think probably she is going to sit down with her team and think do we go for 10 days of practice at Roland Garros when we have a title to defend, or are we actually going in competition?

“I think maybe option two. But that’s a tough 10 days ahead of Roland Garros, that’s for sure.”

The tournaments Iga Swiatek can play before Roland Garros

In the two weeks leading up to the French Open, Swiatek has a few options to prepare for her title defence.

She can use the fortnight to practice, or enter one of two tournaments beginning on the 18th and 19th of May.

The higher-level event of the two is a WTA 500 in Strasbourg, France, where Madison Keys is the current title holder.

The other is a WTA 250 in Rabat, Morocco, which begins a day later than Strasbourg. Both tournaments finish on the 24th of May.

The four-time Roland Garros champion will appear at the French Open for the seventh time, looking to add a sixth Grand Slam title to her name.
