Roy Keane Throws Cheeky Dig At Michael Carrick's Wife To Reignite Feud

Michael Carrick will begin his interim role at Manchester United this weekend, facing into the daunting task of a derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

It is a difficult first game in charge for the Englishman, who is set to lead United for the remainder of the season. The club sit just three points outside the top four, meaning there is still plenty to play for over the remainder of the campaign.

Whether Carrick is the right man for the role remains to be seen. His managerial career has been fairly underwhelming up to this point, consisting only of a middling spell in charge of Middlesbrough.

While most former Manchester United players will wish him well, one figure was quick to raise some previous history with a member of Carrick's family.

Roy Keane Throws Unexpected Dig At Michael Carrick's Wife

Roy Keane has often been quick to question the mentality of Manchester United players since his departure from the club, something that was the case back in 2014.

It came after Michael Carrick gave an interview on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Olympiacos. Keane was on punditry duty for the game, at which point the Cork man criticised both the performance and interview as 'flat'.

It was a fairly innocuous comment, although it did not go down well with Michael Carrick's wife Lisa.

She tweeted at the time to criticise Keane, saying:

Roy Keane what a **** says anything to provoke a reaction... That's all... Done.

Lisa Carrick would later delete the tweet and apologise for the remark.

While this incident occurred over a decade ago, it has not been forgotten by Roy Keane.

On Stick to Football, a lengthy conversation took place about Michael Carrick and the impact he could have at Manchester United. Right at the end of the chat, Keane made sure to get in a comment referencing his old beef with the interim manager's spouse.

Well his wife can always come in, because she's got a bit of a big mouth sometimes.

Wow what? She's probably doing the team talk.

He was waiting for that one.

Roy Keane has received no shortage of criticism down through the years, so it's interesting to see that he still clearly remembers these particular comments.

Despite that, he has wished Michael Carrick well in his new role at Manchester United.
