Man Utd are about to trigger the release clause of £44m player who was truly embarrassed in his last Old Trafford outing

Manchester United must accept reality after losing the UEFA Europa League final.

The Red Devils will have to shop in a different area of the market having missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification – for example, Manchester United were plotting a move for Viktor Gyokeres had they beaten Tottenham in Bilbao, but the Swede now looks unobtainable.

There is a backup option now being pursued in Moise Kean – although the Italian might still be having nightmares about his last trip to Old Trafford.

Sport Media Set believe Manchester United are now ready to trigger the €52m (£43.8m) release clause written into the Italy international’s contract at Fiorentina.

You can see why the Red Devils are keen on Kean, as he scored 25 goals in 44 appearances for Fiorentina this season across all competitions.

If a move does materialise, the 25-year-old would have to return to the site of what is arguably his most embarrassing moment in football so far.

Kean last appeared at Old Trafford with Everton during a Premier League clash back in December 2019, coming on as a substitute under Duncan Ferguson in the 70th minute.

However, the Vercelli-born striker lasted just 18 minutes before being hauled off in place of Oumar Niasse, becoming the victim of a double substitution, something no footballer wants to be subjected to.

Kean is, at least, not the only man to experience such humiliation in the Premier League.

Oliver Glasner did the same to Romain Esse during the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield recently, while many others in the past have suffered this fate.

TBR Football understand Arsenal were offered Kean in January after losing Gabriel Jesus to a serious injury, but opted to ignore the opportunity.

Therefore, with Arsenal still yet to actually sign a new striker, it would bring Ruben Amorim a crumb of comfort if the Fiorentina No.20 does end up becoming a hero at Old Trafford.
