Litton Das will be the captain of the Bangladesh team at Asian Games 2026

Bangladesh has announced their team for the Asian Games. Litton Das will be the captain of the team, while Towhid Hridoy has been entrusted with the vice-captaincy.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Hasan Mahmud have returned to the team. Meanwhile, Nurul Hasan and Abdul Ghaffar Saqlain have been dropped. Nahid Rana is recovering from a side strain, so his name is not in the team.

Bangladesh will play their first match in the tournament in the quarter-finals on 29 September against the winner of Group B. All matches of the Asian Games cricket competition will be held at the Korogi Sports Park.

Shanto played his last T20I match in May last year

Shanto played his last match in this format against the UAE in May last year. He could not score a half-century in 19 consecutive innings, after which he was removed from captaincy. Litton Das became the new captain.

Shanto has scored 987 runs in 50 T20 International matches. His average has been 22.95 and his strike rate 109.06.

Recently, Shanto led Bangladesh to a historic first Test win in Australia. He scored a half-century in this match played in Darwin. Shanto scored 355 runs in the BPL last year. This included one half-century and one century.

Mahmud took 3 wickets during the Pakistan tour

Hasan Mahmud played his last match during the tour of Pakistan last year. He took three wickets in three matches there and conceded runs at an economy of 11.30. Mahmud was named Player of the Match in that same Test match against Australia. He took 10 wickets at an average of 24.67 in the BPL last year.

Bangladesh won bronze in the 2023 Asian Games

Bangladesh won the bronze medal in the last Asian Games held in 2023. India won the gold medal, while Afghanistan received the silver medal. The final between India and Afghanistan at the 2023 Hangzhou Games in China could not be completed due to rain. India was declared the winner based on better seeding.

6 teams will play the preliminary round

The 6 teams in the preliminary round have been divided into 2 groups. Afghanistan, Nepal, and Japan are in Group A, while Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Oman are included in Group B. The top 2 teams from both groups will reach the quarter-finals.
