Shubman Gill Replaced By Rashid Khan As GT Captain vs RR In IPL 2026. Here's The Reason

Shubman Gill, India's ODI and Test captain, has suffered an injury and missed the Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026. Gill, the GT skipper, was replaced by star spinner Rashid Khan in the role. The Afghanistan star revealed that Gill suffered a muscle spasm. "We wanted to bowl first. Gill has a muscle spasm, hopefully he will be back soon. KK (Kumar Kushagra) is playing his first game and look forward to see him play. We played good cricket in the last game as well. Was a good game. We need to bring out 100%," Rashid Khan, Gujarat Titans stand-in skipper, sadi at the toss ahead of the match against Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag won the toss and elected to bat against Gujarat Titans in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Ahmedabad on Saturday. GT are missing their skipper Shubman Gill due to a muscle spasm and in his place Rashid Khan is leading the side. Kumar Kushagra replaced Gill.

RR made two changes, bringing in Tushar Deshpande and Shubham Dubey in place of Brijesh Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi.

GT will be desperate to open their account this season after falling just short in their opening outing against the Punjab Kings. Despite putting up a respectable 162/6 with the bat, they were unable to defend it, as the bowlers failed to hold their nerves in the closing stages, allowing Punjab to chase down the target with five deliveries to spare.

RR, meanwhile, come into the contest brimming with confidence following a commanding victory over Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati. Delivering a complete performance, they bundled out CSK for just 127 before wrapping up the chase with ease inside 13 overs. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger led the charge with the ball, while young Vaibhav Suryavanshi caught the eye with an explosive fifty.
