An Australian tennis player, whose father is Irish, has lost on his debut at Wimbledon.

James Fernandez McCabe, 21, was beaten in straight sets by Hungary's Fabian Marozsan.

The first round match, played on court 11 at the London venue, lasted just under two hours.

James came through qualifying to compete at the tournament.

He said yesterday that it was "a dream come true playing Wimbledon".

James' father, Patrick McCabe, is originally from Greenhills, Walkinstown in Dublin.

In 1997, when he was 22, he moved to Australia with his brother.

He is married to James' mother, Irene, who is from the Philippines.

Mr McCabe said that he trained his son using YouTube as professional lessons were "really, really, really expensive".

He also taught his son to swim and he became a "national champion in both swimming and tennis".
