Richmond assistant coach Steve Morris has announced that he will be departing the Club to spend more time with his young family.

Morris, a second-generation Tiger, has been with the Club since 2012 across various roles, including AFL Player, VFL Captain, VFL Senior Coach, AFL Development, and Line Coach.

The 2019 VFL premiership captain and 87-game AFL Tiger commenced his coaching journey in 2021 as a playing assistant to VFL coach Xavier Clarke.

He assumed the role of VFL senior coach for the 2022 season, a role he held for two seasons, qualifying for two Wildcard Finals series before being elevated to his current role for this season.

“I have decided that I am going to take a step back from coaching at the end of this season,” Morris said.

“With (toddler) Jude at full noise and another on the way in just a few months, I feel as though the time is right to prioritise Ash and my family and I am excited for that.

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity that I have been given to be able to coach at this great club and this great group.

“There are so many amazing people at this footy club, and that is just one of the reasons that these guys are so well placed to be able to chase after success.”

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Performance, Tim Livingstone, thanked Morris for his contribution to the Club.

“Across 14 years, Steve has been an important member of our football department,” he said.

“No matter the role, Steve always gave his all and contributed to the highest standard, and we thank him for that.

“We wish Steve, Ash, Jude, and their growing family all the best for their future endeavours and they are always welcome at Richmond.”
