Alexander Zverev set to be fined by the ATP Tour after what he did following shock defeat to Learner Tien in Acapulco

1
Alexander Zverev has once again failed to recover from his Australian Open heartache, this time suffering an early exit in Acapulco to rising star Learner Tien.

Zverev had an arm injury at the Rio Open, where the top seed won two matches before falling at the quarter-final stage.

World number two Zverev had just suffered an Argentina Open quarter-final exit, in what was his first tournament since reaching the Australian Open final.

Boris Becker didn’t like Zverev’s attitude before that clash, where the latter lost in straight sets to Jannik Sinner.

And he has now suffered further disappointment, with the German falling to American teenager Tien in the Mexican Open round of 16.

Alexander Zverev set to be fined for Acapulco press conference absence

Tien, who defeated fifth seed Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open, eased past the top seed in Acapulco 6-3, 6-4.

And according to journalist Ben Rothenberg, there is set to be further disappointment for the German following his shock loss.

“Zverev should be getting a fine also today to add to his woes,” Rothenberg wrote on X. “He was announced pre-match for a win-or-lose press conference but instead walked straight out of the ATP 500 Acapulco stadium and into a car to ride away into the night, while Tien was still on court.”

Alexander Zverev understandably upset after shock Acapulco loss

Zverev was very likely disappointed and frustrated with his performance, having once again missed out on a chance to close the gap on world number one Sinner.

He also had the opportunity to simply win another trophy, and even fully recover from that disappointment in Melbourne last month.

But it wasn’t meant to be, with the German understandably not wanting to speak to the media after a shock exit.

Like all players, however, media duties are part of the job, with Zverev likely to have very few complaints about the impending fine.
