Chelsea produced a brilliant performance to beat Ajax in the UEFA Youth League, and one Blues prospect continued his superb form.

On Wednesday afternoon, Chelsea Under-19s recorded an emphatic 6-3 win against Ajax Under-19s in the European tie. The senior teams will meet a few hours later at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.

The Blues academy are impressing this season in the UEFA Youth League, winning three games out of three now.

Enzo Maresca, who’s under contract with Chelsea until 2029, has proven he’s prepared to draft youngsters from the academy into his first-team squad fairly regularly. Hopefully, we will see more make the step up during the 2025-26 campaign.

Jesse Derry shines again for Chelsea

It was yet another positive outing for Chelsea prospect Jesse Derry in the Ajax victory.

The 18-year-old winger got the goal-fest underway by scoring in the third minute with a left-footed finish. As a result, he’s now scored in three of his most recent four appearances for the Blues academy across various competitions.

Incidentally, Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, Genesis Antwi, Charlie Holland, and Ato Ampah (two) were also on the scoresheet against Ajax in midweek.

Derry left Crystal Palace in the summer and signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, where he’s settled so quickly into the Chelsea set-up. We’re optimistic that a senior debut can be just around the corner for him.

After Chelsea beat Bayern Munich to Derry’s signature in the summer, supporters should be extremely excited about his future.

Jesse Derry idolises Eden Hazard

Derry will hope he can eventually follow in the footsteps of Chelsea great Eden Hazard by making a name for himself with the Blues.

Without a doubt, retired winger Hazard stands as one of the most talented footballers to ever play in Chelsea colours. He was truly sensational during seven magical years in London between 2012 and 2019.

Meanwhile, Derry is in the infancy of his football journey, finding some real form in the academy.
