Jurgen Klopp makes final decision on Germany staff with Liverpool reunion

Jurgen Klopp is set to be unveiled as Germany's new manager, with the legendary Liverpool boss expected to be joined by two of his former coaches from Anfield in his first job in two years

Jurgen Klopp looks set to be reunited with two of his former Liverpool coaches as he becomes Germany’s new manager.

The legendary Reds boss has been all but confirmed as his country’s new manager at this point, having held talks with the German football association (DFB) almost immediately after Julian Nagelsmann was dismissed following the early exit to Paraguay at the World Cup.

It will, of course, be Klopp’s first permanent job back on the touchline since leaving Liverpool in 2024, having been in charge at Anfield for nearly nine years, and details are now emerging about the support staff he’ll have in place with Germany.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz are both expected to join his coaching staff, having also been part of his team at Liverpool.

Klopp is also set to appoint Sven Bender as one of his assistants, with talks said to be in the final stages about adding the former defender to his staff. Bender played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and has gone into coaching since retiring from playing in 2021, having been an assistant to Edin Terzic at Dortmund, as well as interim head coach at SpVgg Unterhaching.

Klopp is said to have agreed on all the key details regarding his return to management, with the 59-year-old set to sign a four-year deal which will take him through Euro 2028 and the next World Cup. He is expected to be officially unveiled by the DFB in Frankfurt on Friday.

The former Liverpool boss has already effectively confirmed his appointment, having told MagentaTV that he had come to an agreement to leave his role at Red Bull, where he had been working as head of global soccer since January 2025.

"Nothing has been finalized yet," Klopp said. "But the talks have gone well, and everything is moving in the right direction.

“I've reached an agreement and an arrangement with Red Bull - a very, very generous one, if you like. So, practically speaking, nothing stands in the way anymore.

"We're not that far away from being able to make [an] announcement. When the time comes, we'll make the announcement ourselves — we don't need others constantly jumping the gun.

"It should happen within the next few days, ideally. After all, there are only around 60 days until the next international match. At some point, a decision has to be made, and it will be made."
