Hrishikesh Kanitkar will be the head coach of the India A team that was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on May 16 (Friday). Kanitkar will helm the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side in the shadow tour in which the A team will play three games in England, including one against India Seniors.

Apart from Kanitkar, Subhodeep Ghosh of Assam (fielding coach) and Troy Cooley (bowling coach) will accompany the former India and Maharashtra batsman. The 18-member squad is expected to leave for England in batches on May 25 and 26. The first four-day match, designated as a first class game, against England Lions, will begin at Canterbury on May 30.

After the second four-day game in Northampton from June 6, the India A team will be involved in a closed door intra squad match against India Senior team in Beckenham from June 13 to 16. The BCCI has said Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will join the A squad before the second game versus England Lions.

The India Senior team, meanwhile, will be picked in the last week of May. It was to be selected on May 23 initially but in view of the postponement and subsequent resumption of the IPL, the selection of the squad is likely to be delayed.

The team for England will leave on June 6, almost two weeks ahead of the first Test which starts in Headingley on June 20. Gautam Gambhir who, was earlier reported to leave early for England, will apparently travel with the squad as per normal schedule.

India will play five Tests in all with the next four to be played in Birmingham (from July 2), Lord's (from July 10), Manchester (from July 23) and finally at the Oval (from July 31).
