How Manchester United should line up vs West Ham in Premier League fixture

Man Utd play West Ham in the Premier League tonight and here's how our writers think they should line up.

Manchester United take on West Ham in the Premier League tonight. United are looking to record a fifth successive win in the top flight after claiming a 2-0 victory against Tottenham last weekend.

Michael Carrick has won each of his games in charge in his role as interim head coach so far, but West Ham are fighting for survival this season and will be tricky opponents in London.

The Irons have won three of their last four games in the league. Their one defeat in that run came against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which saw West Ham surrender a two-goal lead in the second half.

Regarding the team news, Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu remain sidelined.

Here's how our writers think United should line up:

Tyrone Marshall

Again, there aren't many selection decisions for Carrick to make here. I certainly wouldn't be making any changes defensively and the back four that has impressed recently can go again.

There will be a question mark over Casemiro, who has sometimes struggled when the games come thick and fast. The problem is that Manuel Ugarte is a significant drop-off from the Brazilian. I'd take the risk with Casemiro and hope his legs hold out before an 11-day break.

One player who deserves a start is Benjamin Sesko. He has made an impact as a sub and this game looks ideal to bring him in. I would take Amad out, purely because Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have looked a little more threatening in front of goal.

Carrick will surely be tempted to pick another unchanged starting XI after a fourth win on the bounce, but I would make two changes to the team: Ugarte for Casemiro and Sesko for Amad.

The Ugarte selection may be controversial, but Casemiro was really poor against Burnley at the beginning of January because he'd started two games in the space of four days. I'd pick the Brazilian if there was a guarantee he could perform, but his inclusion would mean another two starts in four days.

Ugarte should benefit from coming into a team playing with confidence. The Sesko decision doesn't need much explaining because he deserves a start after a positive spell. Mbeumo simply can't be dropped and Amad has played more football than Cunha, so he should move to the bench.

United may have a limited number of matches this season and plenty of players deserve their chance to feature, but with momentum as high as it is right now Carrick must stick with what is working best. There is a slight concern about starting Casemiro considering the tight turnaround.

However, the Reds have a long break after this one due to being out of the FA Cup so the Brazilian has plenty of time to recuperate after this fixture before they take on Everton. Mbeumo remains the obvious choice at the top of the pitch.

Carrick's side look better when he is leading the line. Sesko can offer a different headache for the Hammers if called upon from the bench.
