Didier Drogba has expressed deep concern over the recent string of disappointing friendly match results recorded by several top African national teams, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking during a football engagement session, the former Ivory Coast captain warned that the performances could undermine Africa’s ambitions at the upcoming FIFA World Cup if corrective measures are not taken.

His comments came in the wake of several underwhelming results: Ghana’s defeat to Japan, Egypt’s loss to Uzbekistan, Angola’s setback against Argentina, and Ivory Coast’s draw with Saudi Arabia. With all four nations having already secured qualification for the next World Cup, Drogba said he expected stronger displays as part of their preparation.

Drogba urged the teams to raise their competitive levels, train with greater intensity, and treat friendly matches as critical opportunities to build momentum and confidence ahead of the global tournament. He reaffirmed his optimism that African nations can reach the World Cup semi-finals and potentially challenge for the title if they capitalize on their talent and preparation time.

The Ivorian legend also pointed to the growing number of young African players excelling in top European leagues. Their success, he said, should serve as motivation for both foreign-based and home-based players to elevate their performances and deliver results that reflect the continent’s footballing potential.
