Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag sends message to Red Devils chiefs after Gary Neville call

The pressure continues to crank up on under-fire Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag following the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend and the headlines continue to revolve concerning his future

Erik ten Hag is a man under real pressure and a decision on his future could come very soon.

The Dutchman has led Manchester United to their worst-ever start of the Premier League era - with that run continuing at the weekend. The Red Devils slumped to a miserable 0-0 draw against Aston Villa in the West Midlands.

It means that Ten Hag failed to earn a victory across what was billed to be a key week for the former Ajax boss. It also leaves United sitting in a lowly 14th in the table at this early stage, with just winless Southampton having scored fewer than the Red Devils’ five league goals.

Ten Hag now has some time to mull things over with members of his squad expected to jet off to all corners of the globe for the upcoming international break. Take a look at all of the headlines coming out of Old Trafford...

Ten Hag fires message

Erik ten Hag insists he and the United hierarchy remain on the same page despite the club appearing to be in crisis. Speaking after Sunday’s draw with Aston Villa, he said: "We always speak, every week we speak.

“We are all on board together, on one page, we know what we are working through it's a long-term process. We have come through two very tough away games. This is a team, we showed the belief and faith we have."

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Red Devils colleagues were all in attendance at Villa Park on Sunday. Ten Hag has just under two years remaining on the contract that he signed in the summer.

Neville makes sack prediction

Gary Neville believes that the international break would give club chiefs a perfect opportunity to make a managerial change should they want to sack Erik ten Hag. Speaking before Sunday’s draw, the ex-Red Devil said: "I think we all know that obviously clubs do reassess during international breaks, and I think what's happened in the last week.

"Anyone who was in Old Trafford last week [for the defeat against Tottenham], I don't think you even need to be in the stadium to recognise that it felt like a monumental day.”

Despite that, Neville believes that the club could choose to retain Ten Hag. He added: "But one thing's for certain, when you speak to people around the club, they don't want to make that decision.

"They want to try and be different and get through this difficult time. It is their first time in this situation, and they've got a lot of evidence over the last 10 years of how to do it and how not to do it, and I suppose at this moment in time they'll want to try and make their own decision based upon what they're thinking."

Fans hint at Rashford fury

United supporters were convinced that Marcus Rashford was taking aim at Ten Hag during a furious reaction to his substitution against Aston Villa. The striker was taken off during the second-half after escaping a red card.

Rashford was visibly annoyed after leaving the pitch. Some supporters claimed that he said "he's gone mad" while others suggested that he shouted "it's so bad."

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag explained that Rashford’s substitution was to ensure the Red Devils did not go down to ten men. Talking in his post-match press conference, the Dutchman said: "Yes that was one of the reasons to take him off. If it was another foul probably he would be sent off. We can't take another risk."
