Sanju Samson has obtained full clearance from the Centre of Excellence (CoE) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). With this approval, he is now eligible to resume wicketkeeping apart from wielding the bat. As a natural and obvious consequence, he will also reclaim the captaincy of the Rajasthan Royals for the remainder of the ongoing IPL season.

As Cricbuzz reported on March 31, Sanju flew to the Bengaluru-based facility to obtain the go-ahead from the BCCI's Sports Science wing to keep wickets. In view of an operation to his right index finger, Sanju was given permission to only bat initially in the IPL.

Considering his partial availability, the Royals management used him only as a batter and as an Impact Player thereby temporarily handing over the captaincy to Riyan Parag, who led the side in the first three games. Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in these three games. Now that Sanju has been given the full permission, he is expected to take back his role behind the wickets as well.

Sanju flew from Guwahati to Bengaluru after their third game, against Chennai Super Kings, on March 31. He will join the Royals squad in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, where the Royals will take on Punjab Kings on April 5. The Royals team flew to Chandigarh from Guwahati on Wednesday afternoon.

The Royals have one win from three games and are currently placed ninth in the points table, which is being headed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with two wins from as many games.
