Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said that he was "happy to be trolled" after Team India defeated Zimbabwe in the second match of the ongoing T20 International series. A young Team India hammered hosts Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the second T20I match in Harare.

"Congratulations to the young India team that just thrashed Zimbabwe today by 100 runs, especially @IamAbhiSharma4 whose century was the third fastest-ever scored for India in T20Is. Happy they bounced back so quickly from their poor showing yesterday," Tharoor posted on X.

"And glad to be trolled for a happy cause!" he added.

Tharoor kicked-off a social media storm after he criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after Team India lost its first match against minnows Zimbabwe. In a tweet posted soon after the first match, Tharoor called BCCI 'arrogant' and accused it of "taking things for granted".

"So even while the echoes of the wild celebrations at Mumbai for India’s #T20WorldCup win have not died down, we have been beaten by minnows Zimbabwe today in Harare. It's just what @BCCI deserved for taking things for granted. Whether on June 4 or on July 6, arrogance has been brought down a notch. Well played, Zimbabwe!" the Thiruvananthapuram MP had tweeted.

Now, after Team India's win in the second T20I match, BJP took a pot shot at Tharoor and asked if he and Congress will apologise to the Men In Blue.

"One day after Congress, Shashi Tharoor & their ecosystem, in their hatred for Modi & BJP, subjected the Indian Cricket Team to their hatred & negativity, our boys strike back – register a huge win against Zimbabweâ€æquestion remains. Why was Congress celebrating India's defeat yesterday? Why do they keep undermining Bharat's Sena, Sanstha & even Sports only because they hate Modi? Congress is anti Bharat," BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla posted on X.

Even the Kerala unit of the BJP took to X and accused Tharoor of "denigrating the nation".

"Congress poster boy Shashi Tharoor has done it again– just a single defeat and he has not wasted another opportunity in denigrating the Nation. At a time when the country must stand together, during times of tourney victories and defeats, this Jabberwocky has chosen to swoop down and seize the moment as an opportunity for blabbering political vendetta. But then, what else can you expect from someone, who once stooped to insult our National Anthem and National Song?," Kerala BJP tweeted.
