Nathaniel Idowu Summer Camp Kicks Off with 300+ Kids

More than 300 children have commenced participation in the maiden Nathaniel Idowu Summer Camp at the New Maracana Stadium in Tolu, Lagos.

A total of 321 registered participants were admitted into the four-week camp after more than 1,000 children showed up for the opening day.

Each camper received an official jersey, while some participants also received full training kits, including boots, gloves, shin guards, jerseys and balls, courtesy of Gear ’em Up, a US-based organisation.

The camp coordinator, McAnthony Anaelechukwu, said the initiative was designed to identify and develop young talents while also helping them build discipline and character.

“This is about catching them young, building their talent, and building their character. We want to give Lagos children a safe space to dream, learn discipline, and discover what they’re capable of,” Anaelechukwu said.

Twenty certified coaches, a medical crew and kitchen staff have been assembled to oversee the participants throughout the four-week programme.

The camp features football and basketball activities, with participants undergoing warm-ups, drills and other training sessions under the supervision of the coaches.

Some of the children also received specialised equipment, including football boots and goalkeeper gloves, to support their participation in the camp.

Parents expressed satisfaction with the initiative, particularly its free access and the opportunity it provides for children to remain active and engaged during the holiday.

The camp organisers said the turnout of more than 1,000 children for the opening day underscored the demand for structured sporting opportunities among young people in Lagos.
