Troy Deeney names the player Arsenal must now sign to 'win the league'

Arsenal are in fine form at present as they went second in the Premier League table following their 1-0 win over Ipswich Town on Friday.

The Gunners opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Leandro Trossard made it to the byline and put a ball in for Kai Havertz to sweep home.

It wasn’t a vintage performance against a well-drilled Ipswich side, but Arsenal got the job done and are now six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners did so with a depleted front line as they are without Bukayo Saka, who is now set for several months on the sidelines due to injury.

Now, Troy Deeney has addressed Arsenal directly as he named the player he thinks would win them the league were he to join.

Troy Deeney tells Arsenal to sign Alexander Isak

The player in question is Alexander Isak, who was once again in fine form for Newcastle United in their 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Isak, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months, scored his seventh goal in five games at St James’ Park.

Deeney named Isak in his Premier League Team of the Week and wrote on BBC Sport: “Back again, the man, the myth, Mr Isak.

“He’s the best striker in the Premier League currently. Arsenal, just sign him and you’ll win the league, it’s really not that difficult.”

How likely are Arsenal to sign Isak in January transfer window?

It would be very difficult for Arsenal – or anyone else – to successfully pull off a move for Isak in the January transfer window.

Isak is contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2028, which means the Magpies’ hand would be strong in negotiations.

Newcastle World previously reported that Newcastle value Isak at £100million, and with how well he is doing, that price may well be going up by the week.

In addition, the only clubs who would be willing to sell a world-class striker to a rival in the same league mid-season would be those in severe financial difficulties.

This isn’t the case with Newcastle, so it would be extremely unlikely that they’ll entertain any bids for Isak in January, and Arsenal would probably have to wait until the summer.

However, if the Magpies reach the Champions League, signing Isak would become even more difficult as he wouldn’t have to leave to get top European football.
