Matheus Cunha has now explained why he does not see fellow Manchester United summer signing Bryan Mbeumo as an “underrated” player in football.

Bryan Mbeumo arrived at Old Trafford the month after Manchester United signed former Wolves ace Matheus Cunha for a £62.5m fee in the 2025 summer window.

Man Utd paid an initial fee of £65m, including agreeing to a further £6m in add-ons, to bring the 26-year-old French-born talent to the Premier League club last July.

Former Brentford ace Mbeumo has had a sensational impact during the 2025-26 Premier League season, with the Red Devils attacker being a standout performer.

Mbeumo has netted 10 times and registered two assists in 22 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils in his debut season at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Matheus Cunha has now revealed why he has always held a “special” view of United attacker Bryan Mbeumo.

“For me, he’s never an underrated player because I put him so high,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“He gives me the expectation that I know he can do. I know what I see, I know what he does and to be around him [Bryan] is special.

“He’s such a good guy. So, I can never say he is underrated.”

What Matheus Cunha has noticed about Bryan Mbeumo while playing alongside the Man Utd and Cameroon star

United have relied on Mbeumo as a key attacking option and Cunha has waxed lyrical about the Cameroon ace’s different qualities, including his strength.

“He’s very intelligent, he’s very clever,” he explained.

“So, he can use his strength very, very good, like going to space, he shoots so well, so good.

“This is the kind of number nine we need to have. Of course, he’s someone [who] helped us so much and it’s a pleasure to play with him.

“He’s more than the position that he plays. Being around him in the pitch, we know he can create something special.”

Cunha has found the back of the net six times and registered two assists in 25 matches across all competitions for Man Utd since last summer’s move from Wolves.
