Wayne Rooney shares why Liverpool will be much better after this international break

Liverpool went into the international break in their worst form under Arne Slot.

The Reds lost three games in a row in all competitions, with two abysmal performances against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray being a worry for fans given the lack of control and consistency.

As each player has represented their national side, most of the stars of this Liverpool squad have put in some brilliant performances, with Dominik Szoboszlai one of the standouts during his impressive stint with Hungary.

A fair bit of skepticism remains among fans, but there is hope that the form from this Liverpool side will turn around in one of the biggest fixtures on the calendar against Manchester United.

It is a game that has served up some of the best and most intense football matches, no matter the form of either team, which, at this current moment, is below the standards expected.

Wayne Rooney believes the international break will help Liverpool

While the United team are in a much worse position and have been playing incredibly poorly, they do show up in the big games.

Even though the break is a hindrance to most teams, Wayne Rooney sees this as a great opportunity for the Reds and Slot because of his experiences during his playing career of how the international break has actually helped.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the former Red Devils striker explained that it gives players and teams the chance to settle down, especially after a bad run of results.

He said: “Yeah, no, I think certainly for Liverpool, it will definitely have helped Liverpool in just getting away from each other. Because when you lose a few games, two or three games in a row, and you end up, you know, this is where you end up looking at teammates and going ‘you’re doing my head in’.

“Honestly, and you’re doing and just having that time away from each other and the manager having that time away from the players can actually settle everything down.

“And you have time to think, you go away, you’re obviously with your national team, but then you come back, no doubt the minute that Arne Slot will know exactly what he’s going to say to galvanise them after the last few games.”

Liverpool players will be improved following international break

As mentioned, the performances of the majority of the squad have given a boost to hopes that the form of this squad will be turned around quickly, especially with the amount of creativity on display.

Szoboszlai had the best break of the group, but players like Cody Gakpo made four goal contributions in his two games for the Netherlands, showing he can change the game for Liverpool moving forward.

Slot can take solace in the fact that, despite his team playing many games in a short window, most have come back fit or, in Mohamed Salah’s case, rested for the final game, which gives him more opportunities to adapt his team.

The United game may be one of those that many dread, given the historical contest, but given it is at Anfield for the first game back since Southampton in the League Cup, the atmosphere and occasion should be enough to change the fortunes of this team.
