Liverpool's early movement in the summer transfer market has opened up an array of possibilities heading into the remainder of the window. Arne Slot's side are not only primed for the new season, but to capitalise on any more opportunities that present themselves.

Jeremie Frimpong's arrival was made necessary by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure, meanwhile ongoing discussions to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth are taking place in anticipation of replacing opposite full-back Andy Robertson - if not now then at a later point in time.

But the biggest deal of all, Florian Wirtz, is expected on Merseyside for a medical that will help conclude a British-record £116m transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. No, Liverpool have not lost an attacking midfielder to prompt such a major bid, but as an elite talent this is seen as on par with the past acquisitions of Virgil van Dijk or Allison Becker.

Now the German can be the face of a new Anfield era, spearheading success whilst possibly enticing other elite stars to want to join in with Slot's project. With all pressing matters attended to, the Reds are in a strong position to move for any new targets when the moment presents itself.

With that, the ECHO analyses the latest transfer headlines further up the pitch - around strikers Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

Alexander Isak twist

talkSPORT's Alex Crook has hinted that Liverpool could yet break the British transfer record not once this summer, but twice with a later move for Newcastle United's Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move as he went on to hit 23 goals in the Premier League last season. Ultimately, it has been widely reported that the Magpies are not looking to do business with anyone and the fact they qualified for next season's Champions League has only strengthened their position.

But, "Liverpool are still in the market for another forward," Crook asserts. "Alexander Isak would be their dream target.

"Are they going to pay massive money for him? Newcastle are quoting £150m as their asking price. Possibly - don’t rule it out."

Such a fee would blow the £116m Wirtz money out of the water.

Hugo Ekitike feelings

Not only have the Reds' feelings towards Isak been mentioned, but so too towards Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike.

The 22-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions for the German club last year, rediscovering his verve from his teenage years at SC Reims.

However, with a €100m (£85m) price tag that the Bundesliga side will not deviate from at all, no matter who is asking for the striker, Football Insider claim this is a fee that Liverpool are not willing to match for the player.

As Ekitike holds a contract until 2029, Frankfurt are very much in the driving seat for this saga.
