Rinky Hijikata may be the underdog in this match but he has certainly put world No.4 Felix Auger-Aliassime on alert early in the first set.

The Canadian star blasted out to snatch a 2-0 advantage within minutes of the match beginning, but his Australian opponent has fought back remarkably.

Hijikata looks calm each time he goes to serve and has been moving swiftly. He leads 5-3 in the first set.

Over on the outdoor courts, Alexei Popyin is taking on Grigot Dimitrov.

Dimitrov has been in fine form to start this match and leads 4-2.

Maya Joint is through to the second round!

It was a brilliant display by the young Australia, who fought back through the second set and completely dominated the court in the third and final set.

She could not hide her excitement after winning match point.

The final result of the match was 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in Joint’s favour.

Meanwhile, Rinky Hijikata is in action on the grandstand court for the first time.

Karen Khachanov was not afraid to take a swipe at Nick Kyrgios after learning the Australian had been suspended for testing positive to cocaine in June.

Kyrgios took to social media last month to take accountability for his actions and inform the tennis world that he had been given a ban for a positive drug test.

The 31-year-old said he had “made a huge mistake” and would be taking time away from the spotlight to work through some things.

But many like Khachanov, who has faced Kyrgios on court before, were quick to note how vocal he has been about doping and drug bans in the past.

“Even when he wasn’t playing, he always liked to pick on someone, writing things on Twitter and so on,” he told reporters at the US Open.

“And now, when all that has turned against him… what do you want me to say? In the end, you reap what you sow.

“Honestly, it’s not just that I’m not surprised, but to some extent, I can’t feel too much pity either. What he got caught for was ultimately his choice.

”And in the end, look what happened. It backfired on him.”

The countdown is now on for Rinky Hijikata to hit the court.

The Australian star is taking on world No.4 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round. The pair will take to the court once Stan Wawrinka’s farewell is complete.

Meanwhile, Maya Joint is still in action on court 9.

She has forced the match into a third set, winning the second 6-2.

Stan Wawrinka will not be forgotten by the tennis world.

He has been honoured with a career highlights video from the courts at Flushing Meadows by the tournament directors. The crowd is loving it.

Matteo Berrettini is still on court applauding his opponent’s remarkable career.

“It’s been more than 20 years since I first came here. I remember when I played the qualifying the first year I came here and that was impressive for me.

“It is always really special here. One of the reasons I kept playing until I was 41 is to have these moments like you gave me tonight.

“It was really special to me to finish my grand slam career here, 10 years after winning it,” he continued, fighting back tears.

“I am going to miss it. I love the game so much ... I really want to thank you all for all those years of support. It was amazing.”

That is a wrap on Stan Wawrinka’s time in the grand slam arena.

The Swiss star announced earlier this year that this season would be his last on the ATP Tour, earning himself a wildcard into his final US Open.

He has fallen in the first round in straight sets against Matteo Berrettini, 7-6, 7-6, 6-0.

Wawrinka is a three-time major winner, one being the US Open in 2016 where he infamously defeated Novak Djokovic in a four-set thriller. He reached a career high of world No.3.

“I’m delighted to have shared the court with this legend once again,” Berretini said post-match.

“I was a kid when I was watching him play and win slams. It is a dream come true.

“We’ve never played each other in our careers and now we have twice in a row in two grand slams. It is amazing to share the court with a great player like him.”

Maya Joint is not going down without a fight on court 9.

She may have dropped the first set 6-3, but Joint has found a new sense of energy and is carving up in the opening minutes of the second set.

The crowd is getting behind both women on the court and it appears that Joint is riding their energy a little better than Samsonova is.

She currently leads the second set 3-1.

Italy’s Matteo Berrettini is filthy with the ruling made by the chair umpire after he appealed a shot made by Stan Wawrinka, who appeared to hit the ball twice.

Wawrinka had flicked the ball over the net to claim an advantage in the first game of the third set; however, he appeared to try and hit the ball twice.

As per the rules, it has to be one motion to be deemed a legal shot. If an athlete is to stop moving their racquet and then flick it again, that is deemed an illegal shot.

“You could see (his two motions) ... it was kind of like what he did before,” Berrettini pleaded with the chair umpire.

Wawrinka took the emotions of his opponent in good spirits, sharing an embrace with him at the net as the video review team investigated his actions.

The Swiss star managed to get a laugh out of Berrettini as he explained, “I’m 41, that’s why I am slower than you.”

The video review was played at full speed by the team and eventually deemed legal, much to Berrettini’s disappointment.

Australian great Jelena Dokic admitted after the review was complete that when the footage was slowed down by Nine’s cameras, it was clear Berrettini was right.

“The video review is not in slow motion at the US Open, which is a little bit weird,” she said.

“It does show that he did hit it twice, so Berrettini is actually right. But when you look at it in normal speed, it doesn’t look like that.”

Wawrinka claimed the advantage after the review was conducted, but he eventually went on to lose that opening game of the third set.

The Italian currently leads the match 7-6, 7-6, 3-0.

Maya Joint has been putting up a strong display in the first set of her opening match at the US Open, but it has not been enough to rattle her rival just yet.

Joint battled through a range of lengthy rallies and looked strong as she moved around the court. Liudmila Samsonova was doing the exact same, too.

In the end, Samsonova took out the first set 6-3.
