After the 2026 World Cup crises... the Argentine Federation reveals the truth about its president being summoned before the American judiciary

The Argentine Football Association have denied every report claiming that the American judiciary summoned their president, Claudio Tapia, dismissing the stories as baseless rumours.

Published on the association's official website, the statement went on: "Likewise, the allegations regarding the seizure of Tapia's assets, mobile phones and electronic devices in his possession are also untrue rumours."

The Argentine Football Association continued its statement by clarifying that the US judiciary had not targeted president Claudio Tapia with the summons, nor treasurer Pablo Toviggino, but a third party instead.

According to the statement, the order required that unnamed person to appear before a grand jury and to submit documents and correspondence relating to several officials.

Argentine football lived through an extremely tense period during the senior side's run at the 2026 World Cup.

Argentina had to settle for "second place" at the tournament, hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, after losing 1-0 to Spain in the final.

Throughout the competition, though, a campaign gathered pace claiming that the Argentine national team and their legend Lionel Messi had received special favouritism from FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football.

Players and coaching staff from several rival nations also launched fierce attacks on the Argentines during the World Cup on American soil.

The Argentine Football Association has endured its share of tensions and turmoil in recent years. Through it all, the senior national team has written its name into glory.

Lionel Messi and his teammates delivered that glory. Here is the honours list:

* Copa America title: 2021 and 2024.

* World Cup title: 2022.

* Finalissima title: 2022.
