Villa keep Champions League hopes alive

Youri Tielemans' first-half goal saw Aston Villa boost their chances of a Champions League return with a crunch 1-0 victory over Fulham.

Villa, who made the quarter-finals of this season's competition, are still in the hunt to finish in the Premier League top five which will see them back among Europe's elite next term.

Tielemans' 12th-minute header was enough for them to earn a vital three points which extended their unbeaten run at Villa Park to 20 games in all competitions and saw them bounce back from last week's no-show in the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace.

They drew level with Nottingham Forest and Chelsea on 60 points and will now sit back and hope their rivals falter over the weekend as the top-five race heads for a climax in the coming weeks.

Defeat for Fulham, who had a goal disallowed for handball, did little for their own European ambitions as they remained in a battle for eighth, which could bring Europa Conference League action.

Julio Enciso scored a brilliant goal for Ipswich

Everton bid farewell to Saturday afternoons at Goodison Park with a deflating 2-2 draw against relegated Ipswich Town which showcased two brilliant goals befitting the stature of the occasion.

Unfortunately for David Moyes' side, one of those was a 30-yard screamer from the visitors' Julio Enciso, but it came after a Beto header and a swerving Dwight McNeil effort had put the Toffees in front.

However, George Hirst's 79th-minute equaliser was not in the script.

This was the final traditional 3pm kick-off in 133 years of football at the famous old ground - the emotional goodbye against Southampton in a fortnight is a Sunday noon start - before next season's move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and Jordan Ayew scored their team's first goals at the King Power Stadium in five months to secure a 2-0 victory over fellow relegated side Southampton.

Vardy, who will leave Leicester at the end of the season after 13 years with the club, put the Foxes ahead in the 17th minute when he latched onto Bilal El Khannouss's cross and fired high into the net for his 199th goal in a Leicester shirt.

Ayew doubled the lead in the 44th when he struck a free-kick into the wall only for the ball to land back at his feet for him to hammer home past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Leicester are 19th on 21 points after their fifth win. Bottom side Southampton have 11 points and only three games left to avoid being the joint-worst team in Premier League history.
