GoFundMe started for family of Sault athlete who died over the weekend

A GoFundMe page was set up for the family of Nathan Guizzetti, a 19-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie who died suddenly on Sept. 6.

Guizzetti was starting his second season as a member of the University of Windsor football team.

He was one of the top running backs to ever wear the brown and gold at Korah Collegiate, a two-time league MVP who scored an astounding six touchdowns in the 2024 city championship game.

SooToday published a story yesterday describing Guizzetti's achievements and how much he was missed.

The GoFundMe goal was $10,000, but as of this morning the page had collected more than $46,000.

“He had a passion for sports and excelled in football, hockey, and track and field,” the GoFundMe says.

“Whether competing on the field, on the ice, or at the track, Nathan brought determination, sportsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to giving his best.

“His love of athletics helped shape the person he became, creating lasting friendships and memories that will be cherished by teammates, coaches, and everyone who had the privilege of watching him compete.”

As the family comes to terms with this unexpected loss, a meaningful service is being planned to honour and celebrate Guizzetti’s life.

“We have created this GoFundMe to help ease the costs associated with funeral and memorial expenses,” the page says.

“Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help support Nathan's family during this incredibly difficult time. If you are unable to donate, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and keep Nathan's loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

He will be deeply missed, “but his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.”

The cause of death has not been released. The GoFundMe says the funeral service will be held on Sept. 18.
