Rohit masterminded India's historic win as they went unbeaten in the tournament and edged past South Africa in the final by 7 runs. After the win, Rohit went on to announce that he would be stepping away from the shortest format of the game for India.

A video has now been shared by a user where a candid Rohit is seen talking to the reporters, where he disclosed that his initial plan was to continue playing the shortest format of the game for the nation. The India skipper said that the situation has now become such that he thought it was the perfect moment for him to step aside after winning the cup.

"I was not in the mood to retire from T20Is. But the situation has arisen, that I thought, this is the perfect situation for me and nothing better than winning the cup and saying goodbye.

Perhaps he is thinking of building a new team. He might have thought of retiring on his own.

Rohit was also seen in the video saying that he will continue to play in the IPL.

What Rohit initially said about his retirement?

Rohit said this was the best time for him to leave the format and said he had always wanted to win the T20 World Cup and sign off.

"That was my last game as well. Honestly, I have enjoyed it since the time I started playing this format. There is no better time to say goodbye to this format. I have loved every moment of it. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted to do. win the Cup and say (goodbye,)" said Rohit.

The India captain will continue to play ODIs and Tests for India.
