In the ongoing 2nd Bangladesh-West Indies ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium, for the first time a full member nation bowled 50 overs of spin in an ODI innings.

West Indies entered their name in the history books on Tuesday (October 21) by becoming the first full-member team to bowl 50 overs of spin in an ODI innings. The Men in Maroon achieved the feat during the ongoing second ODI against the Bangladeshi team at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. In the pitch that had a lot of cracks, West Indies skipper Shai Hope used five spinners, and each one of them completed their quota of 10 overs.

Gudakesh Motie, who was one of the three specialist spinners for the West Indies on Tuesday, picked up three wickets for 65 runs in 10 overs, and two Bangladeshi batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Akeal Hosein and Alick Athanaze.

Athanaze, who will open the innings for the West Indies in the 214-run chase, only conceded 14 runs in 10 overs and bowled three maiden overs as well.

Performance by West Indies bowlers in 2nd ODI against Bangladesh

For Bangladesh, opener Soumya Sarkar finished as top scorer. The wicketkeeper-batter faced 89 balls and, with the help of three fours and one six, amassed a total of 45 runs, whereas No. 9 Rishad Hossain remained unbeaten on 39 runs from just 14 balls. He smacked three fours and three sixes for the Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led side.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 32 runs from 58 balls.

Rishad and Mehidy added a total of 34 runs to Bangladesh’s total in the last two overs of the innings bowled by Motie and Akeal, respectively.

The ongoing match in Dhaka is a must-win for the West Indies team. The Windies suffered a defeat by 74 runs in the first ODI played at the same venue on Saturday (October 18).
