ATP Finals Day 3 Predictions

Every day at the Nitto ATP Finals is a great day for tennis, and Day 3 brings two fantastic matches for the fans. It’s an important day for Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur, who lost their first matches in straight sets. Things are looking much better for Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz, who play each other to get closer to securing their spot in the semifinals. As always, we at LWOT will offer our predictions for both matches. But who will win?

ATP Finals Day 3 Predictions

Daniil Medvedev vs Alex de Minaur

Head-to-Head: Medvedev 6-3 de Minaur

Daniil Medvedev looked immensely frustrated in his first match against Taylor Fritz, which also impacted his tennis. He hasn’t been in great form and his confidence looks lower than usual. Medvedev hit three double faults in a row towards the end of the first set to gift the set to Fritz and had a mental breakdown towards the end of the second set as well. He has to find his composure as he plays Alex de Minaur in a must-win match. Medvedev should return better against the Australian as his serve is not as good as Fritz’s.

De Minaur is not at the level he was in the first half of the year and that’s not enough when playing against Jannik Sinner. The Australian started the match against Sinner brilliantly but couldn’t hold on to the lead. He will have a better chance against Medvedev though, and can frustrate the former champion with his defense and counter-punching ability. De Minaur has a losing record against Medvedev but has won three of their last five matches. Medvedev’s mentality is questionable currently and de Minaur should take advantage.

Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz

Head-to-Head: Sinner 2-1 Fritz

This is the rematch of this year’s US Open final, and Taylor Fritz will probably be eager for revenge. Fritz was solid against Daniil Medvedev and used his strengths brilliantly. That win was huge for the American since he still has a chance to make the semifinals even if he loses to Sinner. Fritz’s improved rally tolerance and defense helped him to go toe to toe with Medvedev and he will need that against Sinner, who is probably the best player on tour from the baseline.

Sinner looked slightly rusty in patches and was tested against de Minaur but was never in trouble. He served brilliantly and was hitting big behind both wings. Sinner matches up well with Fritz because he can return the American player’s huge serve with interest and neutralise the point. From the baseline, Sinner does everything slightly better than Fritz. For this match to be close, Fritz has to have one of his best serving performances and take any chance when presented in return games.

Prediction: Sinner in 2
