Man City stance on Morgan Gibbs-White transfer amid Nottingham Forest hope

Morgan Gibbs-White is set to leave Nottingham Forest this summer and Manchester City held an interest in the attacking midfielder earlier in the window.

City have no plans to re-enter the race for Morgan Gibbs-White

Manchester City have no plans to sign another midfielder this summer despite Morgan Gibbs-White being available for a reduced £60million fee.

The Blues held an interest in Gibbs-White towards the end of last season, but have since signed Rayan Cherki from Lyon for £31million and Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.3million.

Having completed those deals, they are happy with their midfield strength and are now focusing on exits. Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish, and James McAtee are set to move on. There is also a chance that one of Nico Gonzalez or Ilkay Gundogan will depart.

Forest had slapped a £100million asking price on Gibbs-White towards the end of last season, with the 25-year-old's performances fuelling their charge to European football and earning an England call-up.

City signed Reijnders and Cherki for a combined £77.3million in initial fees instead, but Gibbs-White's future was back on the agenda last week after Tottenham activated a £60million release clause in his City Ground contract.

He had been expected to complete a move to Spurs, but Forest reacted furiously to Tottenham having knowledge of that clause and threatened to report them to the Premier League for an alleged illegal approach.

It has since been claimed that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis would now rather sell Gibbs-White to a different club and that he is hoping City will prove willing buyers and re-enter the race. But the Blues have no intention of doing so and have ended their interest in Gibbs-White.

Pep Guardiola's squad is already bloated, and director of football Hugo Viana is currently working on outgoings, with an intention of bringing the numbers down before the start of the Premier League season.
