Motsepe: CAF Will Uphold CAS Decision in Morocco-Senegal AFCON Dispute

Rabat – Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed that the organization will abide by the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) final decision regarding the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Morocco and Senegal.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Motsepe said CAF has reviewed all aspects of the case and consulted with the match officials to verify that the tournament’s rules and regulations were properly understood and applied during the final.

“Whatever decision the Court of Arbitration for Sport makes, we will implement it,” Motsepe said.

“There are reports about what happened in Morocco, and we have spoken with the referees to ensure that the laws and regulations were clear and correctly applied.”

The CAF president acknowledged the intense debate surrounding the outcome of the final, noting that differing opinions have emerged over which team should ultimately be recognized as the champion.

“I am pleased that there are many discussions and different views regarding what happened between Senegal and Morocco, but in the end, we must wait for the final decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” he added.

Motsepe stressed that CAF cannot prejudge the case or interfere with the judicial process, emphasizing that the final word rests solely with CAS.

He concluded by reiterating that the continental governing body will respect and enforce the tribunal’s ruling, regardless of its outcome, in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.

The dispute over the 2025 AFCON final remains one of African football’s most closely watched legal cases, with both Morocco and Senegal awaiting the verdict that will determine the official outcome of the tournament.
