Rabat – Moroccan international Sofiane Diop has been nominated for the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for October after a standout run with OGC Nice.

The 25‑year‑old winger scored five goals and provided one assist in four matches during October, playing a decisive role in Nice’s strong league season.

His pace, dribbling, and ability to create chances from the left wing have made him one of the team’s most important players since joining in 2022.

Diop, born in Tours, France, has already made more than 50 Ligue 1 appearances for Nice, contributing 14 goals and 12 assists.

This season, he has featured in 12 league games, scoring six times and assisting once, while also appearing in European competitions.

His consistency has helped Nice stay near the top of the table, fighting for Champions League qualification and keeping pressure on Paris Saint‑Germain in the title race.

For the October award, Diop faces competition from Mason Greenwood of Olympique Marseille and Joaquín Panichelli of Strasbourg. The nomination shows his growing influence in French football and his importance to Nice’s ambitions this season.

On the international stage, Diop recently chose to represent Morocco, after playing for France’s youth teams earlier.

Coach Regragui included him in the Atlas Lions’ squad preparing for friendlies against Mozambique and Uganda, ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Morocco.
