Yan Diomande has decided he wants a move to Paris Saint-Germain over Liverpool this summer, although one of his fellow countrymen has suggested Anfield would have been the better destination for him

Yan Diomande has been told by one of his fellow countrymen that a move to Liverpool might be a better choice than Paris Saint-Germain.

The Reds have been in pursuit of Diomande throughout the summer, having made it clear to RB Leipzig last month that they were willing to do a deal for around $115 million (€100M). Having had that offer rejected, Liverpool now though looks as though it will have to look elsewhere.

Reports in recent days have indicated that Diomande has chosen PSG over a move to Anfield should he end up leaving Leipzig this summer, which he has revealed he expects to do.

According to The Athletic, Diomande believes in PSG's project, led by the club’s chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and football advisor Luis Campos, and wants the chance to lift trophies regularly and win the Ballon d'Or.

Former Ivory Coast and Chelsea winger Salomon Kalou though wants to see Diomande move to the Premier League, feeling that it would be the best option for the 19-year-old’s development.

"I think he has something about him - at his young age, he already has the confidence. You can see he is very confident about what he can do on the pitch," Kalou told ESPN.

"I think if that's the choice - to go to PSG - there's a reason behind it. PSG is a team that is winning everything at the moment, so why not if he wants to be in a team that wins everything?

"If you ask me, between the Premier League and Ligue 1 - where a player can develop most, I would say the Premier League - but [PSG] is a top club and a team that can win everything.

"His confidence about himself shows already that he understood that if he wants to be among the best, he needs to show it. He is doing that for Ivory Coast at the moment, so we are happy and we are proud of what we are doing for the country."

A resolution over Diomande’s future is likely to be accelerated now that the Ivory Coast has been eliminated from the World Cup, having fallen to a 2-1 defeat to Norway on Tuesday.

The teenager revealed before that game that he expects to leave his current club, despite Leipzig’s managing director Marcel Schafer saying otherwise.

"Our clear intention is that Yan will play for RB Leipzig next year. And we won’t move away from that," Schafer said.

"We know exactly what we have in him. Of course, if Yan continues like this, the time will come when we allow him to take the next step - but not this year. We hold all the cards. So, to make it clear once again: Diomande will remain an RB Leipzig player.”
