Ewa Pajor: Meet the history-making captain who made Poland dream at EURO 2025

Ewa Pajor has done something no Polish women’s football player has ever done before - captain her country at a major international tournament.

UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 is their first outing on a stage this big, and while it will conclude with their last group game on Saturday (12 July), they leave with plenty to be proud of.

“After these championships, I hope fans, journalists, and everyone in Poland will believe in women’s football,” she told Polskie Radio.

“We want to keep growing and inspire the little girls who, I hope, are watching our matches.”

Pajor has played a crucial role in making this happen, scoring the winning goal in Poland’s two-legged play-off against Austria last December to qualify for the EUROs.

It is arguably the most important strike in her tally of 68, which makes her the nation’s all-time leading goal scorer.

“It was one of the most emotional moments of my life,” she revealed to BBC Sport.

“Knowing we made history… it’s hard to describe. I’ve won titles at club level, but this was different.

“We’ve grown so much as a group and I believe in the work we’ve done – I’m motivated by the chance to show that we belong on this stage, that Poland can dream big.”

Despite exiting the tournament before the knockout phase, Pajor and her teammates bow out knowing they have shown the next generation that Poland belong on this stage.
