Upset over TNPL snub, Tamil Nadu cricketer jumps to death in Chennai

The 23-year-old cricketer, identified as Samuel Raj, jumped from the Kathipara flyover in Guindy, Chennai

A 23-year-old Tamil Nadu cricketer jumped to death in Chennai after he was given a cold shoulder from the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) franchises, according to reports. Samuel Raj, a resident of Virugambakkam, jumped from the Kathipara flyover in Guindy, Chennai.

According to the police, the deceased had completed a practice session and was on his way toward Butt Road on his two-wheeler. Witnesses informed police that he stopped in the middle of the flyover and jumped off it. The passers-by found him, called for an ambulance and alerted the police.

His friends informed the police that he was upset over not being selected for the TNPL, which could have been the reason behind him taking such a grievous step. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) Act.

"We suspect this could have led him to take his life," said an officer. He further added that Samuel did not send any last-minute messages to his friends or family. The boy's body has been handed over to his father, Siva.
