Rahul Dravid India's 2024 T20 World Cup victory was the completion of a full circle in many ways for the national team as the Rohit Sharma -led side lifted the trophy in the West Indies, which was the same place where Indian cricket hit its biggest low in history after a humilating group stage exit in the 2007 Cricket World Cup under's captaincy.

As fate will have it, Dravid was the head coach of the team this time around, and the summit clash of the mega event was his last game in charge of the team. In 2007, it was Greg Chappell , who was the coach of the national team, whose controversial tenure came to an end after the defeat to Sri Lanka in the Men in Blue's final game of the mega event.

Chappell reacted to India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and sent a special message for Dravid. Chappell expressed his delight at seeing David get his hands on the trophy.

“Congratulations to India on winning the T20 World Cup. I am particularly pleased for Rahul for being part of the victory. It is a wonderful way for him to finish his time with the team,” said Chappell to Mid-Day.

For those unversed, Dravid was appointed India captain shortly after Chappell took charge of the national team in 2005 after Sourav Ganguly was removed from the top job.

Dravid and Chappell were at the helm of affairs for almost two years, during which India also suffered a group stage exit in the 2006 Champions Trophy on home soil. However, they won a Test series in West Indies for the first time after 35 years.

During that period, India set the world record for the most consecutive victories in ODI cricket by a team chasing, as they won 17 games in a row.
