Gambhir hasn't broken his silence on this and the fans are waiting for an official word on his appointment.

BCCI's secretary, Jay Shah will soon land in India and the board could name the new head coach next week. Amid the ongoing reports, Wasim Akram has shared his take on Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Akram praised Gambhir and said that he is straightforward person. The Pakistan legend reckoned that Gambhir would be a good choice for the top job. Akram and Gambhir have worked together at Kolkata Knight Riders.

"It depends whether Gautam Gambhir accepts it or not. I believe he has also left politics. Am I right? Because politics was taking...it's a time-consuming type of job. GG is very simple, straightforward, not difficult, but he talks straight. This quality isn't in our culture. In our culture, we ignore things. But GG is a person, if he doesn't like anything, he will let you know. That's his quality and that's why everybody likes him in the cricketing world," Akram told Sportskeeda.

"He will bring this aggression into the team as well, but it depends on whether he accepts it or not. He will be a good choice, best choice I reckon."

Gambhir's coaching in IPL 2024 impressed one and all. With India needing a new coach, Gambhir came into contention and he now looks set to become the next head coach.

Gambhir started his coaching career with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL. He coached the Lucknow-based franchise in IPL 2022 and 2023. Gambhir made his return to KKR before IPL 2024 and joined them as their mentor.

Gambhir's arrival at KKR turned out to be a boon for the franchise and they ended their decade-long wait to win the IPL title. They finished the league stage at the top spot and became the first team to qualify for the final with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

KKR defeated SRH in the final too to become three-time IPL Champions. Their previous two IPL title wins came under Gambhir's captaincy - in 2012 and 2014.
